Weekly Photo Challenge : Path

My favourite paths are found in the Midlands, South Africa.

I can’t help myself, I have to include the best ‘path’ poem:

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Flowers

I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck. ~Emma Goldman

A short while ago, my son and I were driving home from jiu jitsu practice.  It was early evening and we saw the regular flower seller trying to sell his last roses.  It was so cold and I felt so sad for him.  I stopped and asked him how much he would sell the whole lot for.  It wasn’t a terribly large sum of money.  I asked him if he would be able to go home if I bought all of them.  He smiled happily.  Now we had a big bunch of flowers that I had to try get rid of before my hubby thought I had gone mad.  So my son and I rode around to a few homes of people I know and delivered the roses.  It felt really good being able to do that.  The next day I took photos of the roses that I kept for myself.

Bokeh in the garden

The outside of our house is being painted this month and I took a few pictures of the unslightly parts that turned out to be quite beautiful.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Hot

I wish I could post a picture of the scorching hot sun on a beach somewhere but we are enjoying winter here is South Africa.  My husband and sons made a huge fire a few weeks ago and we roasted marshmallows.

Lavender’s blue

I tried to experiment with textures today and I think this one worked pretty well.  The actual photo was taken in June when there were still a  few flowers left in my garden.  One month later and you can see that we are well and truly in the midst of winter.

A setting sun still whispers a promise for tomorrow.  ~Jeb Dickerson,Even though I don’t enjoy this time of year, with everything sooty black, the sunset was so beautiful.  I had my husband racing around following the sun before it set.  We made it with seconds to spare.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Old Fashioned

I inherited this old cupboard from my mother a year ago.  It belonged to her grandmother.  I also inherited her name (Ruby-Jayne).  I love the wood grain and the beautiful handle.  My mom said that she used to keeps sweets inside and that the children were allowed to ask for a treat when they came to visit.
